Kung hei fat choy! Chinese New Year is just around the corner and there’s no better place to ring in the festivities than at Happy Valley Racecourse for Happy Wednesdays. Get ready as Happy Wednesday transforms into a festive spring garden on February 3 and 17.

Teaming up with Hong Kong’s quirky lifestyle retailer G.O.D., Happy Wednesday is set to host racegoers in an exciting monkey-themed spring party at the races. Look forward to live performances, tasty treats and bountiful surprises celebrating the Lunar New Year. Don’t miss your chance to take some fun photos with your friends under the festive decorations and achieve some good luck for the Year of the Monkey. It wouldn’t be a proper celebration without a traditional lion dance! Catch Happy Wednesday’s colourful lion dance accompanied by exciting drumming and endless energy sure to get you in to the spirit of the holidays.

There’s a lot of New Year excitement to look forward to each night of the celebrations, with stunning martial arts displays at Happy Wednesday featuring monkey-style movements and impressive sharp moves from expert martial arts performers. You can also try your luck at bird fortune telling with trained birds that read your fortunes for the New Year. There’re also Chinese paper-cutting arts and crafts showcasing amazingly detailed lucky shapes and patterns. Lastly, there’s traditional fan drawing – a beautiful handicraft with exquisite Chinese calligraphy techniques and paintings laid on to delicate fans.

Don’t miss out on the great games and prizes also set for Happy Wednesdays this February. Try and win the New Year Treasure Pot, where you can pick a lucky gift after purchasing any beer at the Beer Garden. If beer isn’t your thing, take part in the creative costume contest, where you can try on a traditional monkey-head costume and take a fun photo to upload onto Instagram with the hashtag #HappyWednesday for your chance to win G.O.D. shopping vouchers.

Last but not least, don’t forget to taste the festive treats trackside at Happy Valley, including dumplings served with black truffle dip, roasted pork knuckle, banana and scallop fritters, assorted Chinese puddings and grilled ox tongue and pork skewers. There’s something for everyone, so make sure you get a taste of your favourite dish or try something new this year.
