Olivia Newton John Live In Hong Kong

The Grammy-winning actress and singer, best known for her role in '70s classic Grease, celebrates 50 years in music. Catch the Aussie songstress live on May 12 at HKCEC.

She shot to international fame playing goody-two-shoes Sandy in iconic musical Grease. She has enjoyed a legendary music career that’s spanned more than half a century. She has four Grammy awards to her name. She’s sold more than 100 million records. Heck, it’s no exaggeration to describe Olivia Newton-John is one of the biggest and best-selling artists of all time.

Born in Cambridge, UK, and later growing up in Melbourne, Australia, it was clear from the start that music was in ONJ’s blood. At just 14-years-old she formed a short-lived girlband with her classmates, which sadly didn’t go anywhere. However, undeterred, she pressed on and released her first album, If Not For You, in 1971, with the title track written by Bob Dylan. Newton-John’s career went from strength to strength from there on and she picked up a whole host of accolades along the way, including finishing runner-up behind Abba’s stonking hit Waterloo in the 1974 Eurovision song contest.

ONJ’s signature blonde hair and sunshine voice attracted a massive loyal following in the 80s and 90s. She had people hot under the collar with the song Physical, where suggestive lyrics and a groundbreaking leotard-clad music video made the song so popular that it became her best-selling single and a chart topper for 10 consecutive weeks. Like Sandy’s transformation into a skintight leather-wearing rebel in Grease, ONJ’s sexier image elevated her as a cultural icon.

Boasting a back catalogue of many musical styles, from quintessential 80s dance numbers like Xanadu to timeless ballads like Hopelessly Devoted to You, Newton-John returns to Hong Kong to perform her classics on May 12. Sing along to hits including A Few Best Men and Two of a Kind, which are much loved by fans around the world. Be transported back to the 70s, 80s and 90s during a nostalgic night. Olivia Newton-John’s definitely the one that you want. Olivia Lai
