Is it a rice bowl? Is it a salad? It’s…Supafood! Planted on the corner of Bonham Strand and Jervois Street, our new favourite caped crusader appears on a mural adorning this new organic take-out spot.

It’s all about healthy fast food here. And judging from the steady stream of lunchtime visitors on our visit, it’s a more than welcome concept. We manage to snag one of the few seats on the not exactly huge counter which acts as a buffer between diners and the open kitchen, and get to work on the ramen shop-style ordering form. We begin with the apple-roasted pork and kale salad ($108) instead of going rogue and creating a custom offering. The juicy sweet and salty combination of the pork and apple, topped with pomegranate seeds, pumpkin, cherry tomatoes and grains over a bed of kale satisfies and refreshes in equal measure.

When a bolognese rice bowl ($68) catches our eye, we can’t resist. We switch the rice to quinoa and added a side of veggies and add a poached egg to the mix for an extra protein kick. The aromatic dish wins us over easily. To finish, we go for an aptly named dessert matching the superhero theme: the Powerball ($25). This organic odyssey of crushed nuts, peanut butter, coconut and oats hits a very nourishing sweet spot.
We love the efficiency at Supafood, and the balance between tasty and healthy is spot on. If you love fast food but don’t love the guilt afterwards, Supafood could be the one to save. Lily Nona
