Style Tips: How to perfect the Yeezy look

New York Fashion Week’s most anticipated show this season unfolded far from the conventional runway. It took place in a jam-packed Madison Square Garden, with more than 18,000 audience members watching and Kim Kardashian sitting front row with Anna Wintour. In other words, not your ordinary fashion show.

This past Thursday marked Kanye West’s simultaneous launch of the Yeezy Season 3 collection and the debut of his new album, The Life of Pablo. While his previous shows have been an exercise in military-like restraint and minimalism, the Season 3 debut was a no-holds-barred extravaganza headed by a performance from Naomi Campbell and featuring more than 1,000 models dressed in dystopian streetwear. Read on for tips on how to perfect the athletic and spartan Yeezy look…

In the nude
The Yeezy collections have rigorously adhered to a nude color palette each season, but this year Kanye injected a little vitality into the garments with the addition of crimson and ochre accents, just in time for spring. To revitalise your own nude garments, don a maroon sweater beneath a beige camel coat for that pop of color.

Roughened up
The original Yeezy collection was heavily inspired by the London riots and it exuded a dystopian and roughed up vibe. This season, the stage was filled with military boots and garments in all shades of khaki. For an everyday look that blurs the line between streetwear and costumes from The Hunger Games, pair camouflage green skinnies with a rugged pair of black combat boots.

As a collaboration with Adidas, the Yeezy collection fluctuates between the casual, oversized aesthetic of street fashion and the sleek body-conscious silhouettes of athletic leisurewear, with figure-hugging bodysuits pictured beside larger-than-life puffer jackets and coats. Layering is key to getting the Yeezy look.
