Check in: The Opposite House Beijing

Designed by distinguished Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, it’s no wonder this hotel has a distinctly ethereal feel to it. The four-storey foyer has gauze-like curtain flowing from the ceiling, which adds to the already serene and breezy ambience of the establishment. The lobby is also a fantastic space for art, and there’s plenty on display – exhibitions are curated on a quarterly basis, showcasing contemporary art by Chinese artists from Beijing, Hong Kong, London and Australia. Located in the trendy Sanlitun shopping and nightlife district, this hotel is a surprising breath of fresh air among the hustle and bustle of downtown Beijing.

The rooms
There are 98 spacious rooms at this boutique, including nine suites and a penthouse duplex with an exclusive 2,600sq ft roof terrace. Peace and harmony within the walls of each room are inspired by a design palette of wood tones combined with contemporary touches. Each bathroom is equipped with a rain shower, oak tub and premium bath products by Appelles, while technological convenience is also at the guests’ fingertips with complimentary Wi-Fi, a one-touch mood-lighting system and LCD TVs in every room.

The facilities
It’s not a stay at The Opposite House without a dip in the stainless steel pool, located right next to the gym. The clean lines and ambient lighting of the pool are very much in line with the other worldly charm of the hotel. The Opposite House is also home to one of Beijing’s hottest restaurants, Jin Yaa Tang, which is famous for its constantly booked-out yum cha on the weekends as it is for its roast duck, made on the premises.

The bottom line

Convenience and comfort right in the middle of town. What more could you ask for on your next visit to Beijing? Whether you’re in town for personal or business reasons, The Opposite House has all the services and facilities anyone would need. Lisa Cam
