Check in: The London Edition

The London Edition is located in central London’s high-end Fitzrovia district, with Oxford Street and Piccadilly Circus both within a 10-minute walk. Formerly known as the Berners Hotel, its recent renovation by hotelier Ian Schrager and interior design firm Yabu Pushelberg preserves much of the building’s historical finishings and fuses them together with a contemporary design aesthetic. The hotel was the first to open under Schrager’s Edition brand, and is now one of the many options in the Chic Collection – a curated range of boutique hotels and destinations across the globe.
The rooms
The hotel’s 173 rooms take a more modernist approach, with rich wood textures, subtle lighting and faux-fur throws creating a warm, cabin-like feel. All the rooms are furnished with cantilever desks and upholstered George Smith armchairs, and come fully insulated for sound. Both the 2,098sq ft penthouse and select loft suites feature outdoor terraces and fantastic views of the city.

The facilities
The hotel features two bars: the intimate, reservations-only Punch Room and the buzzing Lobby Bar. Adjacent to the Lobby Bar is restaurant Berners Tavern, a glamorous dining room, serving modern British cuisine from Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton. A private nightclub, conference room and gym are also part of the package.

The bottom line

The London Edition brings together classic English architecture and a sophisticated modern design sensibility. It’s this juxtaposition that gives the space such an enticing ambience. With its cosy rooms, expansive lobby space and glitzy dining hall, it’s no surprise that the hotel attracts a trendy and diverse range of clientele. Its location means you’ll also find the British Museum, Soho and the West End just minutes away. Kingsley Man
